TRAVEL will be from Dulles International Airport (Washington DC) with a layover in Europe. The location and layover depend on the carrier. Flights depart about 5PM and arrive in Delhi or Bombay about 11PM (local time) the following night. You'll have 2 flights about 8 hours each with 4-8 hours layover. Travel within India will be by plane, train and bus or car, depending on the size of the team and destinations.
At some ministry locations, you will eat American-style FOOD and Indian food elsewhere. Don't panic! Not all Indian food is 'curry'! In fact, 'curry' actually refers more to a type of cooking rather than a particular flavor. A curry is something like a stew or gravy.
Some ministry locations provide GUESTROOMS designed for Americans. Each room has a private bath. There's no tub, but you will have a sit-down toilet and a shower with hot water. Otherwise, you'll stay in hotels which are usually '3-star', meaning they will be adequate (not posh!), similar to the guestrooms.
We have a list of items to bring (hair dryers are OK, girls!), things to avoid, suggested DRESS CODE and general suggestions.
You can click here or you can inquire at your local Post Office or County Courthouse. If you don't have a passport already, apply now! It can be a lengthy process sometimes.
You will need 2 passport-type photos for your passport application PLUS 2 additional passport photos to submit with your Application to join a team. We will plan to have several team training and orientation meetings.
